Storm

At first so gentle
the rain does fall
just a slight drizzle
the drops so small

But the sky goes dark
and lightning flashes
the clatter of hail
then thunder crashes

The trees so battered
by the violent storm
the critters take cover
as their world transforms

No longer as happy
as sunny and bright
we drown out the sounds
of the rain through the night

But when we awake
look through the window
the last of the storm
leaves a beautiful rainbow

Summer

Summer, the season of fun and surprise
With popsicles and ice cream in endless supply

Spending time with friends, doing whatever you please,
Going on road trips with the cool summer breeze

The beach, a place of ocean and sand,
Coming home happy, and usually tanned.

Capturing moments of bright summer fun
Memories of joy in the warm summer sun.

Sunglasses, slushies, carnivals, and more,
Or evenings spent walking along the cool beach shore

Bonfires, and s’mores to end the night,
Then sparklers for the walks at midnight.

The next day the pool, with friends and fun,
Later, a hike or a fight with water guns.

Then get messy, with a colorful paint fight,
Finally, an outdoor movie to finish off the night.

Soon tests replace the pools and beach days,
And a computer screen instead of a bonfire blaze ,

But each year the summers are better than the rest,

I can’t wait to see what summer brings next!

If My Love

Written for Valentine's Day
(In school we had to write a sappy love poem, and this is what I wrote)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If my love were a flower
It would be in full bloom
If my love were a tower
It would go to the moon

If my love were the sun
There would always be light
If my love were a blizzard
The whole world would be white

Ideas (A continuing poem. The end goes back to the beginning.)

Ideas swirl around my brain
I start to write them down,
But then another one comes in,
And there it spins around!

At last! I wrote them down for good
Continue them I must.
But when I try to write them down,
My mind I cannot trust!

The more I write, the more I get
I keep writing them down.
But when I attempt to continue them,
I just can't help but frown!

Ideas swirl around my brain,
faster than a moving train!
Ideas move around my head,
even when I go to bed!

I write them down,
then try to write more,
But it gets boring,
Writer's block, I'm sure!

Finally!
I finish one.
I must admit,
It was kind of fun!

I settle down,
To write some more,
Wish me luck,
Ideas galore!

Growing Up

Being a kid isn't easy
But neither is being an adult,
And after long observation and experience,
I can finally tell you the result

Kids spend most of their time
Wanting to be adults
While adults always tell us kids,
"Why don't you enjoy your luck?"

Adults may have to work,
And cook and clean and shop,
But adulthood has its perks,
From the Bottom to the top!

Kids can't drive, or stay up late,
Or play 24-7
They can't do anything naughty,
And no T.V at Eleven!

But being a kid means less work,
And mostly constant play,
And adults have to work,
Every single day!

So as a kid I won't wish
To grow up anymore,
Because I know when I do,
I'll wish that I was four!

Dear Dad: Father's Day Special

There is so much you've done
For me and Everyone
And you are so much fun
Though every game we played you won!

More than that you’ve been a dad
I think you’ve been the best
And even when I was bad
You were better than the rest!

Some others may argue
And say their dads are better
But between you and me

You’re the best dad ever!!

My Parents

Dear Mom and Dad
Roses are Red
Violets are blue,

No I’m kidding
I won’t bore you
With that old poem,
I will write something new

Thank you so much
I really am glad
That instead of someone else,

YOU are my mom and dad

My Mom

You embarrass me
You help me
You scold me
You look out for me

What would I do without you?
Many things
But they wouldn’t have
the fun you bring

Thanks for being there for me
Even when I call you mean
During my usual “Mood Swings”
Even when my room’s NOT CLEAN

You get mad
I understand
I am a lot to deal with

So now you know
How much I care
It’s not just a myth

Dear Mom

Since I was little what I wanted was done
Before I could even speak it
And now I realize I barely thanked you
It’s time for me to admit

Now I am older, and wiser and realize
Everything you’ve done for me
So now I’d like to say thank you

You’re the best mom I’ve ever seen!

Spring to Summer

Spring is when flowers grow
From under all that heavy snow

In Spring the trees turn green and bright,
From fresh rain, and warm sunlight

The birds start to sing again,
I wish Spring would never end!

Until, of course, it starts to get warmer
And much sunnier than the former

This means that summer is here!
My personal favorite of the year.

The grass is greener on every side,
And kids are sliding down water slides!

Go to the pool, and the beach,
And always have ice cream within reach!

School is out, and time to play,
Let's not waste a single day!

Some may wonder which to favor
But I think it's both that you should savor!
